Interesting set of 6 Scottish antique sterling silver teaspoons marked IS, thistle and duty head, we believe this to be the mark of John Sinclair I who is known to have worked between 1799 and 1805 and could not be described as a prolific maker by any means. In very clean order with good points to the bowl tips, the odd small edge knock on a bowl and a couple of pinhead sized dinks otherwise a good old Scottish antique set. Each measures 135mm in length. As the weight will show these are by no means a heavy gauge set.
The last image shows all work sent to Edinburgh for assaying, if this is indeed the same maker then you will see he only made 12 spoons and all 12 were hallmarked in 1800 so I think we can safely say if this IS is this John Sinclair these spoons could be described as being a rarity. Assuming the list shown on the last image taken from The Incorporation of Edinburgh is the actual full list of all that was submitted.
