Antique Victorian Sterling Silver'Mary Queen of Scots' Monogram Pebble Brooch. A fabulous antique Scottish pebble brooch from the Victorian era, c1850! Made of sterling silver the brooch features a'Mary Queen of Scots' monogram surrounded by various inlaid segments of natural striated agate and jasper stones. Gorgeous earthy tones of 19th century Scottish-mined agate accent the border, along with a brownish orange jasper crescent placed at the top and bottom. The central'Mary Queen of Scots' (aka Mary Stuart) monogram is finished with an engraved line along all of the edges, adding further depth of character to this exceptional antique brooch. To the reverse a pin and later addition revolver clasp are attached. There is a faint inscription to the back which appears to read'1849' which is likely the production date. No hallmarks or stamps are seen to the piece which is typical of antique pebble pieces, tests indicate sterling silver.

The overall aesthetics and craftsmanship of the antique Scottish piece is beautiful! Scottish agate jewellery was made popular again in the nineteenth century due to Queen Victoria adorning Scottish jewellery and her frequent visits to her Scottish Castle Balmoral. A rare bonnie brooch which carries oodles of Scottish sentiment.

Perfect for the avid Scottish collector! Natural (8) Scottish jasper and agate stones.

7.20cm (2.83" inches) long x 4.40cm (1.74"inches) height. The condition of the piece is excellent. Besides normal wear the brooch remains in superb condition with stones all secure and no major chips visible. There is a slight abrasion near the end of one agate segment though likely originates from the beginning.

Pin and clasp work well. The item "Antique VICTORIAN c1850 S/Silver'MARY QUEEN of SCOTS' Monogram PEBBLE BROOCH" is in sale since Saturday, July 31, 2021.
