Antique VICTORIAN c1860 S/Silver Scottish ABERDEEN GRANITE Saltire Flower BROOCH

Antique Victorian c1860 Scottish Aberdeen Granite Saltire Flower Brooch. A superb Scottish Aberdeen granite brooch dating back to the Victorian era, circa 1860! This beautiful and detailed three-dimensional brooch is crafted in sterling silver, and forms the shape of a blooming flower.

Stunning Aberdeen granite pieces have been inlaid into the surface of the circular centre and outer "petals". The speckled salmon pink and gray hue's typical of the granite sourced from Aberdeen, Scotland in the 19th century, and otherwise known as the "granite city". The centre of the brooch features silver strips which represents the Scottish Saltire flag, and the silver circular border is hand-etched. Surrounding are six Aberdeen granite pieces depicting the flower "petals", alternating with exquisite repoussé work portraying stylized Fleur-de-lis.

There are little granules placed to the terminal of each Fleur-de-lis, adding further style and charm to this wonderful antique brooch! A pin and'C' clasp attaches to the back. No hallmarks are sighted to the piece, which is typical of the era and origin, a test indicates sterling silver.

Scottish pebble jewellery was made popular again in the 19th century due to Queen Victoria adorning Scottish jewellery, and her frequent visits to her Scottish Castle Balmoral. A special piece of Scottish Aberdeen history, perfect for any avid Scottish collector. 3.50cm across (tip to tip). The overall condition of the antique brooch is excellent.

Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the silver, clasp or granite. The repoussé work is in good order, and the hand etching retains a nice crisp look.

Pin works well with good tension. Commensurate with age, there is a natural darkened patina to the silver surface which adds a gorgeous antiquity charm!
