Antique Victorian Scottish Agate Sterling Silver Pebble Bracelet c 1890 Rare

Exquisite and well preserved antique Victorian Scottish pebble bracelet from the late 1800s. Banded and solid tone agate from different parts of Scotland were expertly carved then hinged together with sterling silver that was delicately engraved. The design of the central green agate panel made up of three separate curved pieces is particularly charming and less common. This bracelet is in excellent condition with no issues as far as I can see. The box closure is in good working order.

I do my best to mention any specific condition issues. All items are described to the best of my knowledge.

Pebble jewelry refers to jewelry set with, or otherwise including, polished gemstones found in Scotland. Polished agate and granite were cut into shapes and set in mosaic patterns, or intricately carved into bracelet panels, in silver (occasionally gold) jewelry, often using many colors in one piece. Genuine antique pebble jewelry is always one of a kind. This jewelry came into fashion after Queen Victoria bought the Balmoral Castle estate in 1848.

Agate from the Montrose area in Eastern Scotland is perhaps the most beautiful and serene of all the Scottish stones with a color that is referred to as'dove' gray, an apt and poetic term to describe the color in these stones with fine bands and variations reminiscent of the delicate patterns of bird feathers.
