Antique Victorian Scottish pebble jewelry refers to jewelry set with, or otherwise including, polished gemstones found in Scotland. Polished agate and granite were cut into shapes and set in mosaic patterns, or intricately carved into bracelet panels, in silver (occasionally gold) jewelry, often using many colors in one piece. Genuine antique pebble jewelry is always one of a kind. This jewelry came into fashion after Queen Victoria bought the Balmoral Castle estate in 1848. This particular sterling silver multi stone, multi color, pebble brooch was made some time in the late 1800s. It has a unique and stunning expertly crafted design that features classic green and red speckled bloodstones from the Isle of Rum as well as orange and mustard jaspers from the Campsie Fells in Stirlingshire. Condition is excellent with C-clasp in working condition and all original stones firmly in place.
As with most antique pebble jewelry, there are no markings but this piece does test for 925 sterling silver. Diameter: 1-5/8 approximately 4.1 cm.
