1989 Vintage Scottish Silver Quendale Shetland Brooch Nordic Harness Ornament. In excellent used condition with only a few light scratches, this stunning, unboxed Silver brooch was handmade by the Shetland Jewellery studio which specialises in designs that have been inspired by Scandinavian mythology, local wildlife, the Northern Lights, and traditional Celtic Patterns. Measuring approximately 4.5 cm across and weighing approximately 12 grams (0.4 oz), the stamps on the reverse state " FROM HARNESS ORNAMENT QUENDALE, SHETLANDCIRCA 8 - 900 AD " along with SS, the Lion stamp to indicate Glasgow / Edinburgh, a Castle within a shield and a P which was used to date the year 1989. The manufacturers describe the brooch as follows.. Originally a large bronze "Harness" ornament found in Quendale, Shetland dating from the Viking occupation.
