Presented is a great set of 5 Scottish sterling silver oval soup or dessert spoons. This set is in a fiddle tipt pattern. There is a crest on the front of each handle. This crest represents the Wood family, and is described by Fairbairn's Book of Crests as "a demi-savage wreathed about the head and middle with laurel, and holding in his dexter hand a club erect". The family motto, "Defend" is displayed above the man.
Each spoon is marked on the reverse with Scottish hallmarks: the thistle mark for sterling silver, the three towers mark for Edinburgh, the duty mark of King George III's head, and the date letter E, representing 1810. The spoons are also marked with a maker's mark, PC & S, representing P Cunningham & Son. There is also a Z mark on each piece, this does not appear to be the date letter. This set is in great overall condition, especially considering age. The crests and hallmarks are well-defined on each piece.
There are no additional monograms or monogram removals. There is only minor surface wear which is congruent with normal use. There are no breaks and no repairs. Weight: 165.5 grams or 5.8 ounces.Powered by SixBit's eCommerce Solution.
