Antique 1860 Scottish Sterling Silver, Citrine & Montrose Agate Cairngorm Brooch
Antique Victorian 1860s Scottish Sterling Silver, Citrine & Montrose Agate Cairngorm Brooch. This fantastic brooch was hand crafted of Sterling Silver in Scotland around the 1860s. The size is just perfection, big enough to be noticed and small enough to wear on a lapel. The center stone is a sparkling citrine measuring 7/8" long x 5/8" wide.
It is surrounded by six (6) beautifully marbled, crescent cut and polished pieces of Montrose agate. This type of brooch is called a Cairngorm brooch after the Cairngorms, a mountain range in the Eastern Scottish Highlands.
The central mountain of this range is called Cairn Gorm and has given its name to the whole range. The region is known, among other things, for its beautiful yellow-orange citrine gemstones which proudly adorn the center of these beautiful pieces of art. Understated and elegant, this piece is equally well suited for a man or a woman. This antique beauty measures 1 9/16" long x 7/16" wide and weighs 12.8 grams.
