This gorgeous small sterling and marble Adie & Lovekin brooch was made in Birmingham in 1913. The style and thistle theme is that of traditional Scottish stone jewelry popularized during the reign of Queen Victoria. It features gorgeous Scottish Iona marble, a classic green translucent marble from the isle of Iona on the west coast of Scotland, and a high quality paste (glass) "amethyst" for the thistle plume. The paste amethyst is made to simulate a real amethyst from the Sutherland mountain range.
The brooch has a full set of hallmarks with makers Alld, the anchor for Birmingham assay office, the lion for sterling silver and date letter o for 1913. The brooch width is 1 (2.5 cm) and the pin and C clasp are in good working condition and original. Adie & Lovekin Ltd of Birmingham made unique and exclusive silver items during the late Victorian, Edwardian and Art Nouveau eras.
