ANTIQUE EDWARDIAN SCOTTISH HEART PADLOCK PENDANT DATED 1903. A sweet antique Scottish heart padlock made in Chester in 1903. The piece is modelled in sterling silver and features detailed, chased engraving along the front and two thistles made up of green jasper and brown carnelian, perhaps symbolising two people united by love.
Scottish jewellery, also known as Pebble jewellery, was at the height of popularity in the 19. Century and saw traditional Celtic designs decorated with an abundance of coloured agates and granites. Thistles were one popular motif and the national flower of Scotland, symbolising strength, protection, and unity.It would look beautiful hooked onto a bracelet or chain, the perfect gift for a loved one, complete with the maker's mark and Chester hallmarks on the reverse.
