We love this unique antique, Victorian era Scottish agate and silver Saltire cross and crown brooch. It has a large cross shape, based on the Saltire or St Andrews flag of Scotland with an applied silver crown, the crown is engraved and set with three rich yellow citrine stones. The cool silver bezel frame encasing the agates perfectly, it has a smooth polished reverse, the polished slabs of Scottish agate with multiple tones of white and grey.
A particularly lovely example, very versatile and can be worn in many ways with a lovely design. It is a fairly large sized brooch, ideal for use as a kilt pin or for holding a large scarf or shawl and it has an old C type clasp and pin fastener. Unmarked, tests as sterling silver, Victorian era, c1880s.Good used condition overall, some light surface wear commensurate with age, some tiny nibbles to some edges of the agates. Weighs approx 16.01 grams.
