Antique Scottish Georgian Sterling Silver Goblet / Chalice Edinburgh 1812 RARE

This goblet or chalice is all shiny, we have trouble photographing silver and this is throwing up images of the photographer and the room and a mixture of shiny and matte, it is ALL shiny. Firstly this measures approx'y 16.5cm high and weighs approx'y 295 gm. I would say this is in very good antique condition, a very few very light shallow knocks showing on the inside of the goblet and id doesn't sit perfectly flush with the table, there is a slight rocking movement if you press down on it. This is marked on the base with a T and conjoined MP in a rectangle, the marks for Edinburgh and the date marks for 1812 The help I was given mentions that the TMP is overstamped on another mark which appears to be different, this may indicate that the mark is that of a retailer who wanted to put his own stamp on the work of another. The other theory is in Scottish marks an "M" conjoined to another letter often indicates "Mc" something as the surname.

There was a goldsmith working at this time by the name of Thomas McPherson so it is possible the mark is his. He was previously in a partnership with William, Dick, the partnership being dissolved in 1812, so he fits the bill. I will leave it to you, the silver collectors to decide for yourself.
