Antique Scottish Sterling Genuine Citrine Moss Agate Saltire Cross Brooch c1890
Truly stunning and unusual antique Scottish Victorian (c1890) large saltire cross "pebble brooch" in sterling silver, two types of agate, and a fiery, brilliant, prong set faceted genuine citrine stone at the center. As is more common than not for this era, there are no marks, but this piece has been tested for 925 sterling silver and the central stone has been identified as genuine Cairngorm golden citrine. The drama of this piece stems in part from the bold stark geometric design, but what makes it particularly unusual is the presence of rare gold moss agates from Burn Anne in Ayrshire along with classic speckled pink agates from Fife. Original C clasp and hinge are in good working order. Several stones have very fine fissures which is normal for this form of agate and not caused by any form of damage to the brooch. Antique Victorian Scottish pebble jewelry refers to jewelry set with, or otherwise including, polished gemstones found in Scotland.

Polished agate and granite were cut into shapes and set in mosaic patterns, or intricately carved into bracelet panels, in silver (occasionally gold) jewelry, often using many colors in one piece. Genuine antique pebble jewelry is always one of a kind. This jewelry came into fashion after Queen Victoria bought the Balmoral Castle estate in 1848.

Length: 2-1/8 (5.4 cm). Width: 1-3/4 (4.4 cm). Please note that vintage and/or antique merchandise may have some degree of visible wear and/or patina. This is considered normal and can be a part of the overall appeal and charm. I do my best to mention any specific condition issues.
