Antique Victorian Scottish Pebble Brooch c890 Sterling Silver Agate Bloodstone +
Stunning and substantial sterling silver, multi stone and paste (faux) citrine antique Victorian era Scottish "pebble brooch" in exceptionally good condition and featuring an impressive assortment of Scottish stones. There are classic orange and mustard jaspers from the Campsie Fells in Stirlingshire, green and red speckled bloodstones from the Isle of Rum, mixed banded Fife agates and grey banded Montrose agates.

The sterling silver is intricately etched, adding to the layers of textural detail. All 7 faceted stones are all paste (glass) citrines.

Diameter: 2 (5.1 cm). Tests for sterling silver but no marks, which is quite common for sterling jewelry made in Scotland during the Victorian era.

Original C clasp is in good working order and there are no repairs that I can see. The variety of stones and intricacy of the design make this a truly special piece. Antique Victorian Scottish pebble jewelry refers to jewelry set with, or otherwise including, polished gemstones found in Scotland. Polished agate and granite were cut into shapes and set in mosaic patterns, or intricately carved into bracelet panels, in silver (occasionally gold) jewelry, often using many colors in one piece.

Genuine antique pebble jewelry is always one of a kind. This jewelry came into fashion after Queen Victoria bought the Balmoral Castle estate in 1848.

Antique paste stones, glass made to look like gemstones through various techniques. Popular during the Victorian era, these faux stones,, usually faceted, are somewhat of a lost art. The finished product was often more vibrant and decorative than genuine stones. Vintage and/or antique merchandise may have some degree of visible wear and/or patina. This is considered normal and can be a part of the overall appeal and charm.
