Antique Victorian Scottish Sterling Silver Malachite Brooch. A fanciful antique Victorian malachite brooch from the late 19th century, c1880! Hailing from bonnie Scotland the piece is also known as Scottish pebble jewellery - noted for an exuberant display of traditional highland themes and signature.
The brooch is crafted in sterling silver with stunning malachite sections inlaid into the design. The malachite pieces are a vibrant green hue and display variation of striking banded patterns. The malachite was likely sourced abroad, in Russia which was a main source of malachite in the 19th century. The design comprises of varying shaped malachite stones inlaid into a diamond-shaped design with two open crescent windows either side of a circular silver centre. The silver surface is adorned with a fine etched pattern and there is a lovely curvilinear outline, along with four foliage engraved granules placed at each corner. The plain smooth back has the original pin and c-loop connection. A beautiful piece of Scottish history which would add an impressive accessory to the scarf, lapel or wherever you desire to show it off. Natural (16) green malachite stones. 6cm long x 5cm height. The condition of the brooch is very good.Besides normal surface wear and natural surface patina to the silver the piece presents in excellent Victorian condition. One of the small malachite stones in the centre does bear a bit of damage (seen under magnification) otherwise fantastic. Clasp works well with good tension.
