Georgian 1794 Scottish Large Sterling Silver Shell Bowl Ladle Edinburgh Marks
Beautiful and large sterling silver ladle assayed in Edinburgh and dated 1794. The bowl is shell-shaped and the handle is made in the Celtic Point pattern, a variation on Old English that is mostly seen in Scottish and Irish silver. The hallmarks are very crisp, even without considering the ladle's venerable age of 231 years. The maker is likely James Douglas of the enormous and influential Douglas clan.
Unusually, this ladle has no monogram or crest. Condition: excellent condition, particularly for age.
