Late Georgian Era SCOTTISH AMETHYST & CITRINE THISTLE BROOCH Edinburgh Hallmarks
Late Georgian Scottish Amethyst & Citrine Thistle Brooch, Edinburgh Hallmarks. A magnificent antique Scottish amethyst and citrine brooch from the late Georgian era! The Edinburgh hallmarked piece is made of sterling silver and features a magnificent 3 dimensional thistle motif in a round'target' shape with a curvilinear border. Gleaming from the design is four cabochon golden yellow citrines, along with four skilfully faceted purple amethyst representing the'thistle flowers'. The citrine gems are likely foiled back, displaying a luminous and mesmerizing appearance. A sturdy pin and'C' clasp to the back completes the brooch. Other stamps include a sterling standard'thistle' mark, Edinburgh town mark, and the date letter which is difficult to decipher, albeit possibly a gothic'G' which would represent the year 1839. The makers stamp'JWL & Co' is unknown. An intricate piece of Scottish history which today would make an impressive accessory wherever you may prefer to wear...
