Scottish Sterling Silver Finnish Beast Pendant & Chain h/m 1997 Ola Gorie Orkney

This is an attractive drop pendant from Orkney, Scotland stamped "OMG" for maker Ola Gorie and hallmarked for 1997 Edinburgh called FINNISH BEAST - in good condition with 16" silver chain making 17" in total legth - pendant 33mms x 30mms weighing 9.1 grams. In 1968, a bronze and iron sword with an intricately carved hilt was found in a Viking grave in Suontaka, west of Helsinki.

Ola Gorie studied the beast's head, and the interweaving lines that surrounded it and came up with the final designs. She called the collection Finnish Beast as no one is sure whether the animal portrayed is a horse, a dragon or something even more mysterious.
