DECORATIVE'STONE' SET BROOCH BELIEVED TO BE A KILT PIN OR SIMILAR. FORMED AS A'SWORD' OR SIMILAR IN SILVER METAL STAMPED STERLING. MAY BE OF SOME INTEREST TO COLLECTORS OF SCOTTISH CELTIC THEMED JEWELLERY. / STONE PEBBLE STYLE JEWELLERY. The brooch would certainly benefit from appropriate cleaning, but I will leave that decision to its new owner.
The maker's / sponsor's mark is sadly very worn to read in full. To me, it looks to possibly be WA?? &S, but this is just a personal opinion - please view the images and make your own mind up.
I have taken a couple of photos under a microscope camera in an attempt to show detail / inclusions. I have seen similar examples suggesting late 19th / early 20th century, but in the absence of a full hallmark, it is difficult to date such a piece exactly. I have included a number of photos and these probably describe the item better than I can and form part of the description. Everyone has different considerations when purchasing items and if you need any further information, please feel free to contact me and I will try to help. The ruler, cotton reel and stands are not part of the listing, but just to give an idea as to size / perspective.
The photos were taken inside a tent in natural light, on two different overcast days, along with some taken under a microscope camera, but please be aware that colours will vary according to personal settings. Condition: This brooch is in vintage / pre-owned condition, with wear / rubbing / discolouration to metal mount, tarnishing, knocks, bending to pin, stubborn marks and scratches, commensurate with age/wear/storage.For accuracy it may benefit from appropriate cleaning, as there is evidence of dried cleaning product all over. I will try to answer questions as soon as possible, but this will normally be in the evening. There are times where I may not be able to reply within 24 hours but I will reply well before the listing ends. Packing - I pack to ensure the item arrives with you undamaged.
