Victorian Scottish Pebble Sterling Silver & Malachite Mortarboard Hat Brooch

This is a large and unusual Victorian silver brooch. Made of sterling silver, it is in the form of a university graduate's mortarboard hat, complete with tassel. The top of the hat is set with malachite.

No hallmark but tests as sterling silver, it has a design registration lozenge to the back for 12th August 1865. Not only is it in very good condition with no dents or losses, it retains its leather covered retail box.

The brooch is 5.5cm wide, 14.5g weight, the box is 7.5cm square. A superb and rare piece of Victorian jewellery. Listing and template services provided by inkFrog.
