Victorian Scottish Sterling Silver 52 piece Canteen of Cutlery Twelve Persons

Scottish Sterling Silver Canteen of Cutlery for Twelve Persons - Antique Victorian. The pieces of this fine, antique Victorian Scottish sterling silver straight flatware service for twelve persons have been crafted in the Kings pattern. The Kings pattern subtly deviates from the traditional style as it incorporates a rounded stem to the handle. The anterior surface of each handle is embellished with a bright cut engraved crest depicting a demi griffin, in his dexter paw a sword erect. Each spoon has a rounded heel to the reverse.

This flatware service consists of 52 pieces. The fundamental pieces of this straight Kings pattern cutlery service have been crafted by the Scottish silversmith and flatware maker Robert Gray & Son in 1845.

This impressive antique flatware service is supplied in felt cutlery rolls; which not only protect the items in storage but significantly reduce tarnishing. This crest pertains to the Gladstanes family; the family will later have spelt their name Gladstones/Gladstone. Read this items heraldic identification report.

"Straight" means all the pieces are made by the same maker in the same year. This antique service is an exceptional gauge of silver, fine quality and in excellent presentation condition. The Kings pattern cutlery decoration is very sharp and the bright cut engraved ornamentation is very crisp.

Full hallmarks struck to the reverse of each rounded handle show signs of wear in keeping with age, but remain legible; due to their location the hallmarks were not struck deeply. Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this fine and impressive canteen. Maker: Robert Gray & Son.
