Vintage Luckenbooth Sterling Silver Heart & Crown Shaped Large Scottish Brooch

This is a wonderful vintage sterling silver Scottish Luckenbooth Heart Shaped Brooch. A luckenbooth is a traditional piece of Scottish jewellery and is designed with a heart shape topped with a crown and signifies a token of love. This very attractive sterling silver luckenbooth has the inscribed words "Of earthly joys thou art my choice" and is a gorgeous statement brooch measuring 5 cm / 2 inches in height and a width of 3 cm / 1.5 inches.

This brooch has an attractive curved design so it sits beautifully when worn. The reverse has a secure pin and clasp which opens and closes with no issues and both the pin and the clasp are very securely attached to the brooch.

The reverse of the brooch is stamped IONA STERLING CAI SCOTLAND. CAI stands for Celtic Arts Industries and was established in Glasgow in 1945 producing works inspired by the celtic designs of Alexander Ritchie and set out to revive the art of the Scottish silversmith.

CAI employed several silversmiths who went on to become well known in their own right: Iain MacCormick, Malachy Gormley and John Hart. This super brooch will be provided in a vintage jewellery box as photographed and would make a super addition to a collection of Scottish jewellery. It would also make a lovely gift either to yourself or to another. This item has had a previous life and may show signs of wear and tear commensurate with age.
