Vintage Sterling Silver Scottish Dirk Dagger Brooch. Dates back to 1951, this large and substantial Sterling Silver brooch is nothing short of impressive. It features a Scottish dirk with beautiful engraving on the sheath and additional two purple colour paste stones to each end to add extra sparkles. A dirk is a long bladed thrusting dagger.
As a symbol of Scotland, it gained its name from the Highland Dirk (Scots Gaelic "Dearg") where it was a personal weapon of officers engaged in naval hand-to-hand combat during the Age of Sail as well as the personal sidearm of Highlanders. Secure with a clasp and comes with a silver chain (suitable to wear as a pendant), the overall size of this beautiful brooch is 68mm (2.75 inch) long x 14mm (0.5 inch) wide (widest) x 14mm (0.5 inch) deep. She has been looked after very well, small sign of repair to one end, the clasp is in good working order, and the paste stones are held securely.She has Scottish silver hallmarks, marked WBS, Glasgow Town mark, Silver Standard Mark, Thistle mark, and date letter C for 1951. This stunning brooch will go well with any outfits, comes with a new presentation box, she is ready to find a new home.
